Chibo Sonezakishiten
About This Spot
Stepping into Chibo Sonezakishiten, you are welcomed by the unmistakable hum of lively conversation and the gentle sizzle of the teppan grill. Nestled in the bustling heart of Osaka’s Kita Ward, this spot offers a warm and inviting atmosphere that feels both comfortably familiar and distinctly local. It’s a place where the pace slows just enough for you to savor the moment — the mingling aromas of rich sauces, caramelizing onions, and buttery seafood setting the scene for an authentic culinary experience.
The interior buzzes with the spirit of shared enjoyment, as attentive staff move thoughtfully between tables, their kindness underscoring a genuine care for each guest. Here, the energy is inclusive and unpretentious, making it easy for visitors to feel like part of a celebratory communal meal rather than mere diners passing through.
At its heart, Chibo Sonezakishiten is a celebration of okonomiyaki — that beloved Osaka specialty layered with fresh, local ingredients and cooked right before your eyes. The joy comes from watching the batter bubble and brown, topped with generous portions of pork, delicate seafood, or vibrant vegetables, and finished with a perfectly cooked egg nestled on top. Beyond okonomiyaki, the teppanyaki offerings invite exploration: from tender cuts of domestic beef prepared with thoughtful precision to smaller bites like butter-rich scallops or grilled gyoza that add texture and variety to the experience.
This isn’t just about the food; it’s about the moments it creates. Whether gathered at the bar with a cold draft beer or nestled in one of the quieter corners for a more intimate meal, there’s a feeling of connection — to the city, its flavors, and the people who make this place their own. The casual hum and hospitality feel genuine, a reminder that great food is as much about the spirit around the table as what’s on the plate.

Definitely worth trying the okonomiyaki here, they do have an English menu available for those that don't know enough Japanese Prices are reasonable, staff are friendly and the okonomiyaki tasty, there's 5 okonomiyaki choices on the English menu each with the option of a sunny side egg and green onions This was my second visit in a year

Lovely place that we stubbled upon! We were lucky enough to get the 'private' room which was fantastic. Food was very tasty and service there was great (English was problem for our server). Food came promptly and the Okonomiyaki and tongue were highly recommended!

Was wondering around with my wife for a food place to settle our dinner and we encounter this really nice place with Nupur hosting us. She speaks very fluent English and we were so grateful for her help and hospitality. If we come back to Osaka, we'll definitely visit Chibo and Nupur again.

A great experience in this restaurant in Osaka. The Okonomiyaki are of good quality and the service is very fast. The communication in english wasn’t very clear, it’s necessary to understand all the ingredients and the different options of service: counter service in front of the chefs who preparing all the orders or table service with the chef preparing only your personal griddle food.

It’s my first time to go there . Basically I prefer table seats to counter but I felt it was lucky to get counter seats in front of chef cooking . We ordered “pair “ menus and so delicious. Thank you for giving us good time . I appreciate it
